Live and Local always promise to bring surprising shows to surprising places. Our next show in Taddington on Saturday 22^nd April will be no exception to this with a screening of ‘Nosferatu: a Symphony of Horror’ – the classic silent film accompanied by live music.

Nosferatu was made in 1922 and stars Max Schreck. It was soon established as one of the masterpieces of the silent film era and set the template for horror films that followed. Minima, a group of acclaimed instrumentalists based in Bristol, have produced a spine-tingling live score set against this film – a marriage made in heaven (or perhaps hell…).

Minima’s live music captures perfectly the eerie, Gothic feel of this horror classic, which was the first screen adaptation of Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ and much legend surrounds it. Max Schreck’s chilling performance was so convincing that it led to the belief that he was a genuine vampire. There is dark humour, tenderness too – a story of yearning and the search for fulfilment.

Formed in 2006, Minima perform in cinemas and art centres, as well as music and film festivals, playing original live soundtracks to this and other silent films. Their sound is uncompromising and unique – in performance they use no backing tracks or pre-recorded material. Their repertoire includes cello, double bass, baritone guitar, acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, autoharp, dulcimer, synthesizer, glockenspiel and drum kit.

We can look forward to an evening of high-quality, entertaining silent cinema and exciting and energetic, live instrumental music in the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of a place we know. Bring your own torches for the walk home!
