“Derbyshire Dales residents have been reminded that Christmas and New Year bank holidays mean their bin collections will be one day later than usual over the festive fortnight.
As Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year, the week leading up to Christmas will be business as usual.
The District Council’s contractor Serco will not be working on Boxing Day but will collect usual Monday waste and recycling on Tuesday 27 December, working an extra day on Saturday 31 December. The following week they will not be working Monday 2 January, but will work through from Tuesday 3rd to Saturday 7th January.
Residents are asked to note that no additional household waste will be collected, so are advised to make sure all their household waste is contained in their grey bin with the lid shut, or, for homes on a sack collection, in four standard sized black sacks. Excess recycling will be collected if it is left at the side of recycling containers, making sure it is easily identifiable and suitably contained. The council recommends using transparent containers, such as stacker boxes, rather than black bags, to make so it easy to identify the contents and also requests that any excess card, paper and magazines are separated from other excess recycling. Cardboard must be flattened and broken down into smaller pieces no wider than 0.5m to fit in the recycling compartment of the trucks.
More information on presenting excess recycling can be found online at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/exc
Food waste collections will continue to happen weekly and recycling collections fortnightly.
To help prioritise household waste and recycling collections at this busy time of year, all garden waste (green bin/compostable sacks) collections are suspended during those two weeks.
Every household in the district received a Christmas and New Year collections timetable (please see poster attached) in the October issue of the District Council’s Dales Matters publication, and a collection calendar is also available to view or download online at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/myc
